How to refresh your curls after the gym
If you’ve been sacrificing your health to preserve your lucious curls, it’s time to stop. Though messing up your style is often a side effect of getting a great sweat session is, there are ways to refresh your curls without having to give them a full wash down. Here are five things to keep in mind for your mane when heading home from a workout.
Don’t blow off the steam.
One of the most underrated hair care treatments in the natural hair community is steaming. And it’s really easier than you think. Whether you’re showering at the gym or choose to wait until you get back home, choose to do so sans shower cap and let the steam from your warm shower get to your hair. Doing this adds moisture to your strands, lifts your cuticle, promotes hair growth, reduces shrinkage, refreshes your curls and so much more.
Massage your scalp with an oil.
After a good workout, your scalp may need a bit of loving. So before you replenish the moisture that your strands will so desperately need, try adding a bit of oil onto your scalp to help refresh your mane. Be sure to use an amount that won’t weigh down your hair or choose a lighter oil like our Repair My Hair Argan oil.
Add moisture.
Anyone who works out regularly knows that it’s common for your hair to look and feel dry after you leave the gym and your sweat settles. One way to refresh your hair if you’re short on time (or just don’t feel like doing much) is to mix the Quench Moisturizing Leave-In with water in a spray bottle and apply. Alternatively, you can skip the mixing and just apply the leave-in and use a cream (Curl La La Defining Curl Custard) or gel (Curl Boss Coconut Curling Gelee) and style as usual.
Use the finger coiling method.
If your curls are still refusing to fall in line after you’ve replenished the moisture and added product, try finger coiling. You’ll help them to lay into the way you desire.
Co-wash instead of shampooing.Doing a full wash after a day at the gym may not be possible for everyone and honestly, you might not even feel like it. So, if your hair is just too sweaty to spray and go, try giving it a quick co-wash and then style as usual. Our Purify Me Moisturizing Co-Wash Cleanser is just what you need.
