7 ways to combat humidity this summer
Summer is here and though you may be excited for warmer weather, you may not feel the same way about the humidity that comes along with it. If you’re wondering just how you’ll keep your curls from feeling the effects of the hot and sticky burden known as humidity, here are seven ways to combat it.
Let your natural texture flourish.
One way to keep humidity at bay would be to wear your natural texture as often as possible. A wash and go, for instance, is a good way to combat frizz and keep your curls in tact. Both our Curl Boss — Coconut Curling Gelee and our Don’t Shrink — Elongating Curling Gel can help with achieving an undefeated wash and go.
Choose styles that are as close to your texture as possible.
Wearing styles that are close to your hair’s texture can also help you to combat humidity during the warmer months. That includes twist outs, braid outs and bantu knots. These styles deal better in the heat than those that require more straightening.
Wear a protective style.
If you want to eliminate the chances of having humidity and shrinkage hit your mane, another option would be to go with a protective style. Weaves, wigs, braids, buns, and stylish scarves are all great alternatives to protect your hair.
Co-wash more.
Since we tend to sweat much more during the summer then we do during other months, it may seem necessary to give your hair a good scrub more frequently. Shampooing too often, however, can dry out your hair and lead right to frizz. Instead, try co-washing with our Purify Me — Co-Wash Cleanser in between shampoos.
Be sure to use lighter products.
While the cooler months will require you to use heavier butters and oils to keep your hair moisturized, the warmer months require the opposite. Instead of weighing your hair down, try lighter options like our Frizz Rebel — Coconut & Sweet Almond oil and the Butter Creme — Intensive Moisture Creme.
Deep condition.
If you thought that deep conditioning was something that you only needed during the colder months, you may want to think again. Your hair deserves to experience a deep condition weekly or bi-weekly to help retain moisture. If your hair is hydrated, it will seriously help keep the frizz at bay.
After applying gel, don’t scrunch.
Though it may be tempting — and part of your typical routine — try to keep from scrunching your hair after applying our Curl Boss or Don’t Shrink gels. Eliminating this will make it possible for the gel cast to release throughout the day, preserve your definition and help your curls last longer.
